Position Overview
Accufile is seeking a temporary Law Library Cataloger to work onsite at a prestigious university law library in Boston, Massachusetts.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience cataloging legal materials, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a professional academic setting. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled cataloger to contribute to the organization and accessibility of a premier legal collection.
Key Responsibilities
Catalog and classify law library materials in all formats (print, electronic, and digital) using RDA, MARC21, and Library of Congress Classification (K schedule).
Perform original and copy cataloging of monographs, serials, and other legal resources.
Maintain accuracy and consistency of bibliographic and authority records within the integrated library system (ILS).
Collaborate with library staff to ensure materials are properly processed, labeled, and discoverable.
Ensure compliance with established cataloging and metadata standards.
Identify and resolve cataloging discrepancies and data integrity issues.
Assist with special cataloging or retrospective projects as assigned.
Job requirements
Required:
MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent experience in cataloging within an academic or law library setting).
Demonstrated experience using MARC21, RDA, LCSH, and Library of Congress Classification (K schedule preferred).
Familiarity with integrated library systems (e.g., Ex Libris Alma, Innovative, Koha, etc.).
Strong attention to detail, organization, and quality control.
Ability to work independently and professionally in an academic environment.
Preferred:
Experience cataloging legal or academic library materials.
Knowledge of metadata standards such as Dublin Core or BIBFRAME.
Previous experience with authority control and bibliographic maintenance projects.
